Former V-Roy Harrison to kick off summer music scene

Longtime local favorite Mic Harrison kicks off the summer music season this Saturday night at Patrick Sullivan's Steakhouse & Saloon.

Harrison is best known as the guitarist and co-songwriter for the late, great V-Roys. After last year's band break-up, Harrison recruited V-Roy bassist Paxton Sellers, former Ramblin' Roy guitarist Robbie Trosper, and drummer Jeff Bills into his new outfit.

As compared to their previous band, Sellers calls the Harrison sound, "...heavier, more guitar-rock driven. Any kind of country element is gone." The result is a hard-hitting, exhausting array of riffs and jams.

The group has already established itself as one of the city's premiere live acts with several successful gigs including the head-lining spot on last year's Free Tibet show. Harrison and Sellers have years of chemistry between them that lead to terrific exchanges and interplay. Trosper brings a punk element to the stage with his aggressive playing, as well a few of his original songs.

The group already has plans to enter the studio this July to cut their first record. Available for the first time on CD at the show will be Bills's former group's, the Taoist Cowboys, 1993 release Punt. It can also be found at www. lynnpoint.com or at The Disc Exchange.

Patrick Sullivan's has quickly established itself as one of the best places in Knoxville to catch a show, and Harrison promises to deliver a driving set. In his own words, "We're gonna rock balls."

The show starts at 10:00 with opening act Big Kenney. There is a $5 cover and all entrants must be 21 or older.
