The Faults

Electric Wholesalers

Lynn Point Records

Well, first up this week is a group from my good old hometown of Knoxville. (If you're from there then you know that it is pronounced like Nogs-vul.)  I always like to see a Tennessee homegrown band that sends in their CDs, hint, hint, to all of you out there. To start off, The Faults are comprised of a few ex-members of a critically acclaimed Knoxville group known as The V-Roys. This band had some great success when they signed with Steve Earle's label. The Roys split up and a few of the remaining members formed The Faults.  Enough politics already, let's get to the disc.

I started the disc up and from the beginning, I knew that the now Scott Miller less ensemble would do just fine on their own.  The majority of the disc is straightforward, guitar-driven rock. Similar to that of their former band and other acts like Bare Jr., Will Hoge, and maybe even Sun Volt.  Every tune on the disc is an example of how to combine raw musical talent with powerful and unique songwriting. They do, though, go back to their roots on

"Whispering Goodbye" with a little honky-tonk rock.  Probably, the two best tracks have to be "Dishonest Jenny" and "Poisoned Land". These songs, which are very different from each other, display how creative writing and an ear from what people like to hear come together successfully. Out of the ashes of a once great band rose another with a sound and career all its own. This CD is a definite buy.
