THE HIGH SCORE
Sexy Losers (Lynn
Point)
Reviewed by Erick Mertz
FYI: Rock and Roll
is supposed to be fun. Sometimes that point is muddied in the dour
wretches of black slacker metal or the overly serious posture that tends
not to drip, but ooze from college radio frequencies.
Maybe the High Score on their new LP Sexy Losers is out to remind us
of that seemingly lost point of fact. Reminiscent of 100% Fun era
Matthew Sweet or the more joyously sloppy Weezer offerings, Sexy Losers
isn't going to prep you for the GRE or SAT exam, but it may just offer
an alternative to fretting over them. Filled with twelve clever paeans
to life, all in the name of rock and roll, the High Score creates an
invaluable tutorial on such raucous topics as guzzling PBR and surviving
a mosh pit, mere moments from going out of control. Check out "Motley
Who" for the album's most witty refrains and "Let The Stupidness Begin"
where stumble punk socks the dish and runs away with the spoon.
For a moment, we should all step back and let as loose as Sexy Losers
begs us to.
