Out of Knoxville, TN come to us the guys of The High Score. They’re a rockband and they sent us their debut Sexy Losers. As far as we’re concerned, this is a major entry: this is rock ‘n roll the way rock ‘n roll should sound these days: dirty, greasy, loud though with sense of melody. Chris Cook, Jason Peters, Robbie Trosper and Dave Walker sure do know what happened to the world in the last decades: they’ve heard The Stooges, but they also know of The Replacements and R.E.M. They know The Ramones, but also The Clash. They know what punk was about, and not just from their parents, they know how to appreciate a solid John Hiatt-song and, last but not  least: they believe there can’t be enough fuzz on an electric guitar. That’s what we like about them. Besides all this, the four gentlemen know how to write a song: Laid Up is one that’s ready for StuBru, and Motley Who has the same radio-potential. This isn’t exactly the next Big Thing for folkies, but it sure is funny and entertaining. We don’t know if this is the kind of music a band needs to break through all over Europe, but we sure have seen a lot of less-talented bands on our festival-stages ‘round here.

Uit Knoxville, TN, komt tot ons: The High Score, een rockband die met Sexy Losers debuteert en wat ons betreft meteen door de grote poort naar binnen komt: dit is rock ‘n’ roll zoals die vandaag de dag moet klinken: vuil, smerig, hard en toch melodieus. Chris Cook, Jason Peters, Robbie Trosper en Dave Walker weten wat er de voorbije jaren allemaal op de wereld is losgelaten: zij hebben The Stooges gehoord, maar ook The Replacements en R.E.M; zij kennen The Ramones, maar ook The Clash. Zij hebben duidelijk de punk van méér dan horen zeggen, kunnen een brok John Hiatt wel smaken en vinden dat er nooit genoeg fuzz op een elektrische gitaar kan zitten. Moet kunnen, vinden wij. De vier heren kunnen ook nog een song in elkaar draaien, zo blijkt: Laid Up moet bij ons zondermeer op StuBru kunnen, terwijl Motley Who al evenzeer radiopotentieel heeft. Niet meteen geschikt voor de folkies, maar leuk en onderhoudend. Of je daarmee doorbreekt op het Europese continent is zeer de vraag, maar er hebben in dit land al duidelijk minder getalenteerde bands op allerlei festivalpodia gestaan, zeker weten. (Dani Heyvaert)
