BIOGRAPHY

Originally formed to participate in a “Clash vs. Sex Pistols” tribute night at a local dive,
Atlanta based band: The Indicators was formed in 1998 by song-writing musician Mike
Goldman (formerly of Knoxville, TN’s The Estradas and Ray-o-vacs,) and
drummer/singer David McNair. While thrown together for a one-night gig, the group
liked what they heard, began practicing regularly and soon assembled a set of original
material. That same year, the band issued the limited edition EP: All Fun & Games ‘Til
Someone Puts an Eye Out.

In 2001,the band’s first full-length CD: Beauty is a Whore, was released. Creative
Loafing described it as “lying somewhere between the slam of the MC5, the ranting of
Roky Erickson and Steve Earle’s insightful twang.”
In March 2003, The Indicators proudly released its second CD, the well received: Kill
the Messenger on Knoxville’s Lynn Point Records label. Produced by Rob Gal (Kelly
Hogan, the Rock*A*Teens,) Kill the Messenger showcases a new maturity in Goldman’s
songwriting as well as an expanded sonic palette featuring: organ, mandolin and slide
guitar. Featured artists on the album include: Guadalcanal Diary’s Murry Attaway, Paul
Melancon and the Josh Joplin Group’s Allen Broyles on Hammond organ. From the
opening riffs of Goldman’s “I Guess by Now” to the crunch of the band’s spot-on cover
of Spirit’s “I Got a Line on You,” this CD showcases a sound that has been called: “a
defiantly loud and literate unit.” “Wonderfully uplifting pop/rock that is reminiscent of
Tom Petty as well as The Young Fresh Fellows.” “. . . perfect kind of rock for a
weekend night at the bar: rowdy, catchy, sometimes bitter, sometimes sweet” by
industry press.

The band includes Atlanta scene veterans: Joe Foy on bass and Blake Rainey (Young
Antiques) on guitar and vocals. Rainey also contributes his dynamic songwriting skill.
This ensemble featuring seasoned musicians is a band committed to the music and
entertaining fans in the here and now. They came to play and no one in the band is
pre-occupied with a recording contract or sponsored tour.
The Indicators perform not only locally at clubs like Little Five Points favorite: The Star
Community Bar and Athens’ 40 Watt Club but also throughout the Southeast in cities
like: Knoxville, Jacksonville, Charleston, Savannah and Auburn. The band will be
touring again beginning in September.

Not Long Till Dark is the final installation of the Indicators trilogy of recorded
work. It finds them still straddling the twin camps of power pop and roots rock and
holding forth on love, heartbreak and loss. However, this is by far the least angry and most of
hopeful of the records. Founding members Mike Goldman and Dave McNair are rounded
out by bassist, Joe Foy (ex Chickens and Pigs) and guitarist, Blake Rainey (Young Antiques),
who always penned one of the albums most killer tunes.

The band has thrown in the towel after completing this record but at least the went out on top.
