SIMPLE SOUTHERN PLEASURES
There’s something to be said for simplicity. The Indicators are a four-piece band that excels at it, churning out power-pop with a roots-rock and garage band twist. Despite the fact that most songs are in the three to four minute range, they still lace them with sparkling and tenacious guitar work. True, the Indicators won’t win any awards for originality, but their infectious, gritty hook-laden songs should set your feet tapping and have you humming the melodies in short order. Their album Kill The Messenger (Lynn Point Records) is killer. The opening cut, “I Guess By Now,” deserves FM airplay, while “Walkaround” is a buoyant rocker drenched in searing guitar. They also pull off a good cover of Spirit’s “I Got A Line On You.” Think Tom Petty, Steve Earle, classic Rolling Stones and even Slobberbone or Big Star.
These guys are good.
