MVB: #5 Braves Upend #7 Missouri Valley, 3-1

PARKVILLE, Mo. – The OU men’s volleyball team defeated Missouri Valley College for the second time in a week with a 3-1; 25-13, 26-15, 24-26, 26-24; victory on Friday morning. The Braves played in their first four set match of the season.

How it Happened

The Braves took an early 3-1 lead over the Vikings in set one. A block byDaniel Jacobs and Troy Lance gave OU an 8-6 lead. With OU leading 11-9, the Braves reeled off six straight points to take a 17-9 lead over Missouri Valley. MVC was not able to recover and OU took a 25-13 victory. The Braves had seven kills and a .333 attacking percentage. Missouri Valley finished with seven kills and a -.138 attacking percentage. After three straight kills by Jacobs, the Braves had a 13-7 lead over the Vikings in set two. Missouri Valley never threatened the Braves and OU took the 25-15 victory. Ottawa had 14 kills and a .458 attacking percentage. MVC finished with 10 kills and a 154 attacking percentage. In set three, the Braves had an 18-14 lead over the Vikings. MVC was able to rally, taking the 26-24 victory. Ottawa had 10 kills and a .143 attacking percentage. Missouri Valley finished with a .361 attacking percentage and 16 kills. OU trailed for most of set four. MVC had a 20-17 lead over the Braves. OU rallied and tied the set at 23-23. MVC retook the lead, 24-23. The Braves scored the next three points to take the set. Back-to-back kills by Jacobs gave OU a 25-24 lead. Ottawa would take the set and the match on a block by Brandon Oswald and Ike Nwachie, 26-24. OU had a .241 attacking percentage with 12 kills. MVC finished with 17 kills and a .167 attacking percentage.

The Braves finish the four set match with 43 kills, a .283 attacking percentage, 41 assists, four service aces, 43 digs, and 11 team blocks. Daniel Jacobs led OU with a double-double. He finished with 18 kills and 10 digs. Penieli Tulikihihifo was the other Brave in double figure kills. He finished with 11 kills. Troy Lance finished with seven block assists.
