Daredevils
heat up Old City
The band, made up of four former UT students, includes Brett Cassidy (guitar and lead vocals), Jeff Caudill (guitar, vocals and songwriter), Brandon Smith (bass), Gray Comer (lead guitar and backup vocals) and Morrie Rothstein (percussion). Recently The Daily Beacon interviewed several members of the band. Daily Beacon: What kind of music do you play? Comer: We play original rock 'n' roll music with a strong pop element and an emphasis on songwriting. We focus on vocal melody and have no problem with being overtly catchy. DB: How long has the band been together? Comer: We've been together almost three years. We've been playing in town for two years and have recently had a few out-of-town shows including Murfreesboro and Lexington, Ky. DB: What would you say is your signature sound or mood? Cassidy: We're good to listen to and a bit on the loud side. We're just good old fashioned rock 'n' roll. Comer: Our ultimate goal is to create our own signature sound. We're not there yet. We want to bring it all together. DB: Do you prefer playing live or recording in the studio? Caudill: I like live more than the studio, but I like both. I like jumping around and working with the crowd. In the studio we have the freedom to experiment. Comer: I love them both. It's apples and oranges. Live is the smells and crowd. Recording is putting something together. They're two different things. DB: What can the crowd expect from a performance? Cassidy: Damn good music. We're three-part harmony. Caudill: A lack of pretension. We're into entertaining. We're not trying to blow people's minds. DB: How does the crowd respond to your performance? Cassidy: Sometimes we get pretty lively crowds. It's the ordinary Knoxville crowd. o The band Believe in Toledo will be opening tonight's show around 11. o The cover is $5 for those 21 and up.
